A Washington tradition for more than 80 years, Wagshal's is Washington DC's premier delicatessen and gourmet market. We provide our customers with the finest quality food and service available, from preparing sandwiches, to catering elegant events.
1925: Sam Wagshal moved to Washington, DC, in 1925 from Lawrence, Massachusetts.
1939: Wagshal’s moved to a new shopping center in the Spring Valley neighborhood. As the area developed and more people settled there, Wagshal’s became a very popular meeting place for families, dignitaries, local government officials and American University students.
When Sam retired, his son Ben took over and ran the business with his wife, Lillian.
1990: Ben and Lillian sold Wagshal’s Delicatessen to the Fuchs and Socha families.
1995: Wagshal’s Market opened its doors in the same shopping center as the original delicatessen. Selling prime meats, seafood, produce and flowers, it didn’t take long for customers and media alike to see that the Market continued to provide the best quality and service around. The final piece to Wagshal’s triumvirate was the opening of Wagshal’s Catering and Bakery Kitchen.
The concept behind Wagshal’s Bakery and Catering Kitchen was to provide customers with access to Wagshal's delicious and homemade offerings for their own catered events. We designed the open kitchen so that our customers could enjoy the sights and fresh aromas of delicious home cooking while we assist them with planning their event in a manner that is tailored to their specific needs.
Wagshal’s Bakery and Catering Kitchen does it all! From menu planning to cooking and staffing your event, Wagshal’s stands ready to accommodate your every need. From a dinner for 10 to an elegant event for 100-plus guests, Wagshal’s can provide complete or partial services, depending on your needs.
